Windows Vista logoWindows Vista SP1 review

Although I'm late to the party in reviewing Windows Vista SP1, it's becoming widely available as I write this, so now is as good a time as any for my review.  Rather than try to cover every improvement in SP1, I'm going to cover my particular experiences.  Read my review.

How (wrong) memes get started Print E-mail

Ed Bott wrote a blog post on how a group of people are incorrectly accusing Dell of deliberately hobbling a low-end desktop system.  The basic issue is that Dell's original system BIOS didn't support 4 GB of RAM properly on 64-bit systems.  Dell released an update that fixes the problem, but there is some confusion among a group of users who appear to be running a 32-bit operating system or have some other problem.

I didn't think about this when I first read the story, but what's interesting about the whole thing is this is how Internet memes get started.  People take an incorrect piece of information, attribute malice to it and then spread it around the Tubes, where it will never, ever go away.  I can't help but think this is how the "Vista sucks" meme got started.  All I can say is that Vista doesn't suck for me, and I'm glad we have people, like one of the forum posters in the thread Ed references, who try to set the record straight on these issues.
